Several members of the shul have been asking about Ron Hirschhorn a.h., whose sudden passing has been a source of great sadness to us all.  The following message was forwarded to us via WhatsApp and we reproduce it here, to give readers an opportunity to gain some measure of the worth of this much-loved, admired and respected individual:

יהי זכרו ברוך

This is what one of the rabbis in Boston wrote to the community about him:

" Chevre,

With tears in my eyes, I share the news of the tragic passing of Ron Hirschhorn z"l of Jerusalem, beloved husband of Miriam and father of their two young children, beloved son of our teachers, friends and lontime-ago former members Rabbi Kenny and Sara Hirschorn of Neve Daniel. The Hirschhorn family spent a Sabbatical year in our Shul in 2001-2002 (25 years ago!). They lived in Profs. Jonathan Sarna and Ruth Langer's home (while they themselves were in Israel on Sabbatical that year), and quickly became part of the Shaarei family. Ron z"l was a classmate and friend of my son Amitai (see picture below) and they attended Maimonides School 2nd grade together. I remember that Rav Kenny and Ron learned Torah for 15 minutes a day without fail. Ron was then a sweet, athletic  boy who grew up to become a hero of the Jewish people as both a Jewish educator and heroic leader of the IDF.

Sergeant Major (Res.) Ran Hirschhorn z”l, 32, of Jerusalem, passed away suddenly after suffering a stroke followed by a heart attack during his continued service in the reserves with the Carmeli Brigade; he led his soldiers for more than 400 days of mobilization amid the ongoing conflict in Lebonan and Gaza. Beloved as a platoon sergeant, Ran was also a devoted husband to Miriam and a cherished father of two young children. A passionate educator, he taught at Choker Yotzer School, where many local families and alumni remember his kindness and commitment. Ran was the son of Rabbi Kenny Hirschhorn, a prominent Ra”m (Torah teacher) at Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh in Jerusalem’s Old City, and his mother Sarah; he grew up in a home that valued Torah, service, and community. Known for his generous nature and warm friendships, Ran chose to serve both his nation and his students with dedication and humility. Following his passing, his family honored his wishes by donating his organs. He was laid to rest with military honors at Mount Herzl. May his memory be a blessing."
